Mastitis

I kid you not I had mastitis FOUR FREAKING TIMES in one month.... after only 5-6 weeks of breastfeeding.... what is Mastitis?  A painful infection of the breast. Caused by a clogged milk duct.

It can happen on just one side or both. Mine was just on one side each time. And I could tell because it felt like I had the flu, I had a 103 temp! My boobs were blotchy and red and warm. They hurt to touch we’re sore. It didn’t necicerally hurt to breastfeed. Just more so to touch.

Symptoms include breast pain, swelling, warmth, fever, and chills. It was so odd I played tennis 5-6 weeks after having the baby I wore a sports bra that was way too small because I hadn’t gone bra shopping since my new rack arrived lol. So I believe I went way to long without pumping or feeding my baby. And my boobs were just filled with milk. It was also freezing that day.

That night my boob hurt at the touch, started turning red-then blotchy then I got a fever. And I knew... well googled then I knew.

so how to treat it... well breastfeeding it out is great keep feeding through the pain it may open up the clogged milk duct. A hot shower or warm compress on the inflamed spot. It went away then came back later in the week.. I was so uncomfortable so we called the doctor they gave me a antibiotic. I couldn’t stand it also freaked me out that what I put in my body my child takes in. (Which my child got thrush after I took this so I have to wonder!) but I stopped taking it just took some ibuprofen and heated up bamboobies boob pads.

Another time I was out shopping for more than three hours and my son was only on milk and I think I waited to long to pump or feed him again. Heck no I just pop him on there in the middle of the store. I am not going to risk mastitis. Some people say it hurts when they feed but it’s not terrible.
